Summary

Future Motion is recalling approximately 300,000 Onewheel self-balancing electric skateboards, including all models manufactured between January 2014 and September 2023. The skateboards can stop balancing the rider if the board's operating limits are exceeded, which has led to dozens of reports of crashes. There have been four reported deaths due to head trauma and numerous serious injuries, including paralysis, traumatic brain injuries, and fractures. Owners of the GT, Pint X, Pint, and + XR models should update their firmware through the Onewheel app to install a Haptic Buzz warning system, while all owners should stop using the boards immediately.

Risk

The skateboards can abruptly stop balancing the rider when operating limits are exceeded, throwing the rider from the board. This defect has caused four deaths from head trauma and several life-altering injuries, including paralysis and permanent brain damage.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall involves all models of Future Motion Onewheel self-balancing electric skateboards, including Onewheel (original), Onewheel+, Onewheel+ XR, Onewheel Pint, Onewheel Pint X, and Onewheel GT.
  2. Identify your board by looking for the model name on the side of the skateboard and the Onewheel logo printed on the rail.
  3. Stop using all recalled Onewheel electric skateboards immediately to prevent the risk of a crash and serious injury.
  4. If you own a Onewheel GT, Pint X, Pint, or Onewheel+ XR, download or update the Onewheel app on your smartphone to install a firmware update that adds 'Haptic Buzz' functionality, which provides a tactile and audible warning when nearing board limits.
  5. The firmware update for the GT model is currently available; updates for the Pint X, Pint, and XR models are expected to launch within six weeks of the late September 2023 recall announcement.
  6. Visit https://recall.onewheel.com or https://onewheel.com and click on 'Recall' for more information, or contact Future Motion at 800-283-7943 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT Monday through Friday.

Your Remedy Options

๐Ÿ“‹Refund, Repair

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Onewheel electric skateboards. Consumers with the Onewheel GT, Onewheel Pint X, Onewheel Pint, or Onewheel+ XR electric skateboards should download or update the Onewheel app, and use the app to update the firmware on their board to include Haptic Buzz alert functionality. Haptic Buzz is a tactile and audible warning system that provides the rider with a buzzing sensation and sound when nearing the limits of the board or when in low battery or error states. The firmware update for the Onewheel GT will be available within one week, with the firmware update for the Pint X, Pint, and XR launching within six weeks.
