Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 217 model year 2024 Maverick vehicles because the fuel tanks may have been manufactured with an open joint between the molds. This defect can allow fuel to leak out of the tank. If your vehicle is affected, Ford dealers will replace the fuel tank entirely with a new one at no cost to you.

Risk

A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source, such as a spark or hot engine component, significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire. This defect may also cause the Malfunction Indicator Lamp to illuminate on the dashboard.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle identification to see if you own a 2024 Ford Maverick; approximately 217 vehicles are affected by this specific fuel tank defect.
  2. If you detect a fuel leak or if the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (check engine light) illuminates on your dashboard, park the vehicle and shut off the engine immediately.
  3. Contact any authorized Ford dealer to schedule a free replacement of the fuel tank.
  4. For further assistance, contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference Ford's internal recall number 24S17.
  5. You may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
