Honda (American Honda Motor Co.): Motorcycles Recalled Due to Potential Fuel Pump Failure and Engine Stall

Summary

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling approximately 29,301 motorcycles including certain 2018-2024 GL1800 (Goldwing), 2018-2024 CBR600RR, and 2018-2019 CBR1000RR models. The fuel pump impellers in these motorcycles may have been improperly molded, which can cause them to deform and lead to a total fuel pump failure. If the fuel pump fails, the engine may stall suddenly while the motorcycle is in motion, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. Owners will be provided with a free inspection and replacement of the fuel pump module at authorized dealers.

Risk

A deformed fuel pump impeller can cause the pump to stop functioning, cutting off the fuel supply to the engine and causing it to stall without warning while driving, which can lead to a loss of control and a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your motorcycle's model and year to see if it is among the affected 2018-2024 GL1800 (Goldwing), 2018-2024 CBR600RR, or 2018-2019 CBR1000RR motorcycles.
  2. Contact an authorized Honda dealer to schedule a free inspection and, if necessary, a replacement of the fuel pump module.
  3. You can verify if your specific motorcycle is included by contacting Honda customer service at 1-866-784-1870 and referencing recall numbers KP8, KP9, KQ0, or KQ1.
  4. If you have additional questions, you may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
