Summary

Indian Motorcycle Company is recalling approximately 7,812 motorcycles across several 2021-2022 models, including the Scout, Chief, and Super Chief series. The fuel pump in these motorcycles may fail while riding, which can cause the engine to stall unexpectedly. To address this safety issue, authorized dealers will replace the fuel pump and the fuel pump seal at no cost to owners.

Risk

A fuel pump failure while the motorcycle is in motion leads to a sudden engine stall. This loss of power can cause the rider to lose control or be stranded in traffic, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your motorcycle is affected by checking your owner's manual or registration for these specific models: 2021-2022 Scout, Scout Bobber Sixty, Scout Bobber, Scout Icon, Scout Sixty, Scout Bobber Twenty, Scout Bobber Icon, Chief, Chief Bobber, Chief Bobber Dark Horse, Chief Dark Horse, Scout Rogue, Super Chief, and Super Chief Limited, or the 2022 Scout Rogue Sixty.
  2. Contact an authorized Indian Motorcycle dealer to schedule a service appointment for a free replacement of the fuel pump and fuel pump seal.
  3. If you have questions, contact Indian Motorcycle customer service at 1-877-204-3697 and reference recall number I-22-06.
  4. For additional information, you may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
