Summary

Cummins, Inc. is recalling approximately 9,332 Cummins X15 diesel engines, re-manufactured engines, and various service/overhaul kits because the fuel pump barrels can fracture. This defect may lead to a fuel leak, which can cause the engine to stall unexpectedly during operation. Cummins will replace the affected fuel pump barrels with new ones free of charge to ensure vehicle safety.

Risk

A fractured fuel pump barrel can cause the engine to leak fuel and suddenly lose power or stall while driving. An unexpected engine stall in traffic significantly increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your engine is affected by checking for these specific Cummins X15 part numbers: D103019BX03 (New Engine), DR7989-RX (Re-manufactured), 631058000 or 6310580PX (Fuel Pump Barrel Kits), 559463000, 559462500, 5594630PX, or 5594625PX (Fuel Pump Assemblies), or 632445200RX or 632445500RX (Overhaul Kits).
  2. Contact Cummins Customer Service at 812-377-5000 to schedule a free replacement of the fuel pump barrels; refer to Cummins recall number C7083 or C7092.
  3. If you are unsure if your vehicle or equipment uses one of these engines or kits, contact your local authorized dealer or Cummins service center for verification.
  4. For additional information or to check your VIN (if applicable), contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
