Summary

Fu San Machinery is recalling approximately 163,000 low lead ball valves used in flammable gas piping systems for homes and businesses. These brass shut-off valves, sold under seven different brand names including Aqualine, AY McDonald, FNW, Hodes Co., Legend, Leonard Valve, and Mueller, can crack and leak gas. While no injuries have been reported, the defect presents a significant safety risk. The affected valves were sold nationwide between April 2011 and January 2012 for between $13 and $20. Consumers should stop using the gas supply connected to these valves and contact the manufacturer for a $300 reimbursement to cover professional replacement costs.

Risk

The valves can develop cracks that allow flammable gas to leak into the surrounding environment. This creates a serious risk of fire or catastrophic explosion if the leaking gas finds an ignition source.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately turn off the gas supply connected to any suspected valve until it can be professionally inspected and replaced.
  2. Check the valve neck (under the handle) for the Fu San logo and an 'O' marking, and look for the word 'Taiwan' on the handle to identify the manufacturer.
  3. Verify the date code located under the valve handle; affected units have codes from 1103 through 1112 (representing March 2011 through December 2011).
  4. Confirm the brand and model by checking your records or the valve body for brands like Aqualine, AY McDonald, FNW, Hodes Co., Legend, Leonard Valve, or Mueller and sizes of 3/4 inch or 1 inch.
  5. Contact Danville Sales at (855) 779-9200 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.fsvalve.com.tw to initiate the $300 reimbursement process.
  6. Take a photo of the installed valve showing it in the gas line and a photo of the date code before it is removed by a professional.
  7. Mail the recalled valve, the photos, the installation address details, and your contact information to: Danville Sales Office for Fu San Machinery, 1101 N. Kings Hwy, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
  8. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions regarding this safety recall.

Your Remedy Options

๐Ÿ“‹Replace

Consumers should turn off the gas supply until a replacement gas valve has been professionally installed. Consumers should contact Danville Sales which, on behalf of Fu San Machinery, will provide compensation of $300 to reimburse customers for costs incurred to remove and return the valve and for purchasing and installing a replacement valve. The affected valve should be returned to the Danville Sales Office for Fu San Machinery with a photo depicting the valve in the gas line before removal and showing the date code on the valve, along with the address and details of the location where the valve was installed. The requested information, the recalled valve, and the consumer name and address should be sent to the address in the Consumer Contact paragraph. Upon receipt, Fu San will reimburse customers in the amount of $300.
