Summary

Volkswagen is recalling approximately 271,330 vehicles, including certain 2021-2024 Atlas and 2020-2024 Atlas Cross Sport models. The passenger occupant detection system (PODS) may have faulty wiring that can deactivate the front passenger air bag even when the seat is occupied. Dealers will replace the PODS sensor mat and wiring harness free of charge to ensure the safety system functions correctly.

Risk

If the wiring fault occurs, the front passenger air bag will be deactivated and will not deploy during a collision. This significantly increases the risk of serious injury to the front passenger during a crash.
