Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.: Audi and Volkswagen Vehicles Recalled for Front Passenger Air Bag Deactivation

Summary

Volkswagen Group of America is recalling 91 vehicles including various 2023-2024 Audi models (A3, A4, A8, Q3, Q5, Q7, Q8, RS5, RSQ8, S5, SQ7, TT) and E-Tron series because an electrical connection for the occupant detection system in the front passenger seat may loosen. If this connection fails, the vehicle may incorrectly identify the seat as empty and deactivate the front passenger air bag. Dealers will replace the occupant detection system control module free of charge to ensure the safety systems function correctly.

Risk

If the occupant detection system is deactivated, the front passenger air bag will not deploy during a crash. This significantly increases the risk of serious injury to the front seat passenger in the event of an accident.
