Subaru of America, Inc.: Crosstrek, Impreza, Forester, and WRX Recalled for Driveshaft Cracking

Summary

Subaru is recalling approximately 4,701 vehicles, including certain 2024 Crosstrek and Impreza models, 2023-2024 Forester models, and 2023 WRX models. The front driveshaft assemblies in these vehicles may have an outer part that develops cracks and eventually breaks. If the driveshaft fails, the vehicle can lose power while driving or roll away when parked if the parking brake is not used. Dealers will inspect and replace both the left and right front driveshafts as necessary, free of charge.

Risk

A cracked or broken driveshaft can cause the vehicle to suddenly lose the ability to move while driving, or allow the vehicle to roll away while parked if the parking brake is not set. Both situations significantly increase the risk of a crash or injury to bystanders.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's make, model, and year to see if it is included in this recall: 2024 Subaru Crosstrek, 2024 Subaru Impreza, 2023-2024 Subaru Forester, or 2023 Subaru WRX.
  2. Always engage your parking brake whenever the vehicle is parked to prevent a potential rollaway until the recall repair is performed.
  3. Contact an authorized Subaru dealer to schedule a free inspection and replacement of the left and right front driveshaft assemblies.
  4. If you have additional questions, contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614 and reference recall number WRP-23.
  5. For further assistance, you may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
