Summary

Forest River is recalling 5,168 of its 2021-2022 Salem, Wildwood, and Ozark travel trailers because the fresh water tank may dislodge and fall to the ground. This occurs when the tank is full or overfilled, potentially causing it to detach from the vehicle while in motion. Forest River dealers will inspect the tanks and install necessary support straps free of charge. Owners were previously notified by mail starting November 2, 2022.

Risk

If the water tank falls from the vehicle while you are driving, it becomes a major road hazard for other drivers and significantly increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's make, model, and year to see if you own a 2021-2022 Forest River Salem, Wildwood, or Ozark travel trailer.
  2. Look for Forest River recall number 72-1559 or NHTSA campaign number 22V729 in any manufacturer correspondence you may have received.
  3. Contact Forest River Customer Service at 1-574-534-3167 to confirm if your specific unit is affected and to schedule a free inspection and repair.
  4. Schedule an appointment with an authorized Forest River dealer to have the fresh water tank inspected for support straps; the dealer will install straps as necessary at no cost to you.
  5. Call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
