Ford Motor Company: 2018-2020 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator Seat Belt Malfunction

Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 77,574 model year 2018-2020 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles because the seat belt pretensioner may activate without warning. When this happens, the seat belt for the driver or front passenger may lock permanently, preventing it from extending or retracting. Ford will replace the seat belt retractors and, if necessary, install a missing HVAC drain tube elbow at no cost to owners.

Risk

A seat belt that is locked and cannot retract or extend will fail to properly secure the driver or passenger during a collision, significantly increasing the risk of serious injury in a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's make, model, and year to see if you own a 2018-2020 Ford Expedition or 2018-2020 Lincoln Navigator.
  2. If you own an affected vehicle, contact a Ford or Lincoln dealer to schedule a free repair; dealers will replace the seat belt retractors and install an HVAC drain tube elbow if it is missing.
  3. You may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 24S06.
  4. For further information or to check your specific VIN, visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls or call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
