Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 849,310 vehicles, specifically certain 2021-2026 Ford Bronco and 2021-2024 Ford Edge models. The Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) in these vehicles can overheat and shut down, which prevents the rearview camera image from appearing on the dashboard display. Ford will provide a free software update for the module either through a dealer visit or an over-the-air (OTA) update.

Risk

If the rearview camera fails to display an image, the driver's visibility behind the vehicle is significantly reduced. This failure increases the risk of a crash or striking a pedestrian while backing up.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA.gov website to see if your Ford Bronco or Ford Edge is affected by this recall.
  2. If your vehicle is affected, you can have the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) software updated for free by an authorized Ford dealer.
  3. Alternatively, this repair may be available as an over-the-air (OTA) software update that can be completed remotely without visiting a dealership.
  4. For more information, contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 26S09.
  5. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls for additional information.
