2021-2025 Ford Bronco Recalled for Transmission Misalignment

Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 4,922 of its 2021-2025 Bronco vehicles because the joint connecting the transmission to the transfer case may be misaligned. This issue is often the result of an incorrectly performed previous repair and can cause the transmission output shaft and transfer case input splines to wear down excessively. Dealers will inspect the connection and replace the transmission and transfer case components as needed, free of charge.

Risk

The excessive wear on the transmission and transfer case components can lead to a sudden loss of drive power or cause the vehicle to roll away while parked. Both scenarios significantly increase the risk of a crash or injury to bystanders.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is affected by visiting NHTSA.gov and entering your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Ford's internal number for this recall is 26S26.
  2. Contact a Ford dealer to schedule a free inspection of the transmission to transfer case joint and any necessary component replacements.
  3. Watch for a notification letter from Ford; interim letters regarding the safety risk are expected to be mailed by April 27, 2026, with a second letter following in July 2026 once repair parts are available.
  4. If you have additional questions, contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.
  5. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
