Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling 55 of its 2026 Lincoln Aviator and Ford Explorer vehicles because the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system may fail. This failure can prevent the windshield defrosting and defogging system from working properly. Dealers will inspect and secure the instrument panel joints to fix the issue at no cost to owners.

Risk

If the windshield defrosting and defogging system becomes inoperative, the driver's visibility may be significantly reduced. This decreased visibility increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is affected by visiting NHTSA.gov and entering your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Affected VINs became searchable on the site beginning April 3, 2026.
  2. Contact a Ford or Lincoln dealer to schedule a free inspection and repair of the instrument panel joints.
  3. For more information, contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 26S22.
  4. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls for additional assistance.
