Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 20,558 plug-in hybrid vehicles, including 2020-2024 Ford Escape and 2021-2024 Lincoln Corsair models. A manufacturing defect in the high voltage battery cells can cause an internal short circuit, leading to battery failure. This failure can result in a sudden loss of drive power while driving, increasing the risk of a crash, or can lead to a vehicle fire. While a final repair is being developed, Ford is advising owners to take specific interim safety precautions to reduce risk.

Risk

A short circuit in the high voltage battery can cause the vehicle to lose power unexpectedly or catch fire. Loss of power while the vehicle is in motion significantly increases the risk of a collision.
