2020-2023 Ford Escape, Maverick, and Corsair Recalled for Engine Fire Risk

Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling 1,809 vehicles, including certain 2020-2023 Ford Escape, 2021-2023 Lincoln Corsair, and 2022-2023 Ford Maverick models with 2.5L hybrid (HEV) or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) engines. These vehicles were previously repaired incorrectly for a separate issue, and a potential engine failure could now cause oil or fuel vapor to leak and ignite on hot engine parts. Dealers will update the powertrain control module software to fix this issue at no cost to owners.

Risk

In the event of an engine failure, fuel and oil vapors can escape and accumulate near hot engine or exhaust components. This creates a significant risk of an engine compartment fire, which increases the possibility of injury to occupants or bystanders.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall affects 2020-2023 Ford Escape, 2021-2023 Lincoln Corsair, and 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles equipped with 2.5L HEV or PHEV engines that were previously repaired under recall 23V380.
  2. If you hear unexpected engine noises, notice a reduction in vehicle power, or see smoke while driving, park the vehicle and shut off the engine as quickly as possible.
  3. Contact an authorized Ford or Lincoln dealer to schedule a free software update for your vehicle's powertrain control module.
  4. You may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 25S54 for further information.
  5. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls for additional assistance.
