FoodState Recalls Bottles of MegaFood One Daily Supplements Due to Lack of Child-Resistant Packaging

Summary

FoodState Inc. is recalling about 7,400 bottles of MegaFood One Daily multi-vitamin and mineral supplements. The glass bottles lack child-resistant packaging as required by federal safety law. This defect is particularly dangerous because the tablets contain iron, and there is no reported incident of injury yet. These brown glass bottles with yellow labels were sold at natural food stores like Whole Foods Market and Sprouts Farmers Market between June and October 2012. Consumers should immediately move these bottles out of the reach of children and return them for a refund or replacement.

Risk

The packaging is not child-resistant, which allows young children to easily open the bottle and ingest multiple tablets. Because the supplements contain iron, accidental ingestion by a child can lead to serious poisoning, injury, or death.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your bottle of MegaFood One Daily to see if it matches the recalled product codes and lot numbers located on the left side of the front label.
  2. Identify the specific product: For 60-tablet bottles (Product Code 51494, Lot 10151), check for lot numbers 10613, 10724 through 10728, 11246, or 12191.
  3. Identify the specific product: For 90-tablet bottles, check for Product Code 51494 and Lot 10152; for 180-tablet bottles, check for Product Code 51494 and Lot 10153.
  4. Immediately place any affected bottles out of the reach and sight of children.
  5. Return the recalled supplement bottle to the original place of purchase for a full refund or a replacement bottle with child-resistant packaging.
