Summary

Arçelik A.S. has recalled approximately 6,300 Blomberg and Summit 24-inch wide freestanding glass top electric ranges because they can become energized, posing a severe risk of electric shock and electrocution. One death has been reported involving a professional plumber who came into contact with an energized range. These products were sold in stainless steel and black finishes at major retailers like AJ Madison, State Street Discount, and Amazon.com between October 2012 and March 2017. Consumers should immediately stop using the ranges and contact the manufacturer to schedule a free on-site inspection and repair.

Risk

The electrical components of the range can cause the entire unit to become energized with electricity. Touching the range while it is in this state, especially while also touching a grounded object, can lead to fatal electrocution or severe electric shock.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify your range by checking the label located on the lower frame inside the oven door for the brand names 'Blomberg' or 'Summit'.
  2. Verify if your model is affected by looking for model numbers BERU 24200 SS, BERU 24100 SS, or CLRE24 on the same interior label.
  3. Check the 10-digit serial number on the label; affected serial numbers begin with: 12 XXXXXX XX, 15 XXXXXX XX, 16 XXXXXX 03, 16 XXXXXX 06, 13 XXXXXX XX, 16 XXXXXX 01, 16 XXXXXX 04, 16 XXXXXX 07, 14 XXXXXX XX, 16 XXXXXX 02, 16 XXXXXX 05, or 16 XXXXXX 08.
  4. Immediately stop using the recalled range and avoid touching it until the electricity to the range has been turned off at your home's fuse box or circuit breaker.
  5. Contact Arçelik toll-free at 877-271-1489 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.blombergappliances.us and click 'Recall Information' to schedule a free on-site inspection and repair.
  6. For additional questions or to report further incidents, contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
