Summary

Firefly Fuels Inc. is recalling about 11,275 Firefly Safe & Green 32 oz. fuel bottles because they include a nozzle applicator that is not child-resistant, violating federal safety standards. When the nozzle is used instead of the original child-resistant cap, children can easily access the fuel, which contains hydrocarbons that can cause fatal lung damage if swallowed. The product is also incorrectly labeled as "Non-Toxic," which may lead consumers to believe it is safer than it actually is. These transparent bottles were sold online at Amazon.com, Walmart.com, and fireflyfuel.com from August 2019 through May 2025 for about $20.

Risk

The nozzle applicator allows young children to access the fuel, which contains hydrocarbons. If swallowed, these chemicals can enter the lungs and cause chemical pneumonia or fatal pulmonary damage. There have been no incidents or injuries reported to date.
