Marion Body Works Inc.: 2022 Gladiator and 2023 MetroStar Fire Trucks Recalled for Water Pump Failure

Summary

Marion Body Works Inc. is recalling two emergency vehicles, specifically a 2022 Gladiator and a 2023 MetroStar, because the water pump may fail to activate. After these trucks are driven in reverse, the transmission control module may fail to lock into the 4th gear required to start the water pump. If the pump cannot start, the truck will be unable to discharge water during an emergency, which increases the risk of injury during a fire. Dealers will provide a free software update for the transmission control module to resolve the issue.

Risk

The vehicle's transmission may fail to engage the specific gear lockup needed to power the water pump after reversing. This failure prevents firefighters from being able to pump water, creating a critical safety risk and increasing the potential for injuries during fire suppression activities.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your fleet includes a 2022 Gladiator or 2023 MetroStar emergency vehicle manufactured by Marion Body Works Inc.
  2. Contact Marion's customer service at 1-715-754-5261 to arrange for a free software update for the transmission control module (TCM).
  3. Ensure the TCM software is updated by an authorized dealer to ensure the water pump functions correctly after the vehicle has been in reverse gear.
  4. For additional questions or to check your VIN, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
