Summary

Felt Bicycles is recalling approximately 645 mountain bicycles because the original carbon fiber seatpost can crack and break during use. This recall affects the 2015 model year Felt Double Double 30, NINEe 20, and Edict 1 mountain bikes. Felt has received 10 reports of these seatposts cracking, though no injuries have been reported yet. These bikes were sold at bicycle specialty stores nationwide between August 2014 and September 2015 for between $2,000 and $5,500.

Risk

The carbon fiber seatpost can unexpectedly snap or crack while riding, causing the seat to collapse and the rider to lose control, which poses a serious risk of falling and injury.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your bicycle's top tube for the model names 'Double Double 30', 'NINEe 20', or 'Edict 1' to determine if it is affected.
  2. Verify the color scheme and logo placement: The Double Double 30 is blue with the Felt logo on the down tube; the NINEe 20 is gray and orange with the logo on the down tube; and the Edict 1 is black and blue with the logo on the top tube.
  3. Immediately stop riding the recalled bicycle until it has been inspected.
  4. Contact your local Felt Bicycles dealer to schedule a free inspection and a replacement of the carbon fiber seatpost.
  5. For more information, contact Felt Bicycles toll-free at 866-433-5887 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday or visit www.feltracing.com and click on 'Notices'.
