Volvo Car USA, LLC: 2023 Volvo Vehicles Recalled for Emergency Call System Warning Error

Summary

Volvo Car USA is recalling approximately 393 vehicles, including certain 2023 S60, V60CC, XC60, XC90, XC40, and C40 models. These vehicles may incorrectly display an "e-Call Service Required" warning message due to a software error in the emergency call system. Authorized dealers will update the telematics and connectivity antenna module (TCAM) software at no cost to the owner to resolve the issue.

Risk

The false warning message can hide a real failure of the emergency call system. If the system actually fails and the driver ignores it thinking it is the false error, emergency responders could be delayed during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is one of the affected 2023 models: S60, V60CC, XC60, XC90, XC40, or C40.
  2. Look for an "e-Call Service Required" message in your driver information module (DIM) display.
  3. Contact an authorized Volvo dealer to schedule a free update for your telematics and connectivity antenna module (TCAM) software.
  4. If you have additional questions, contact Volvo Car's customer service at 1-800-458-1552 and mention recall number R10225.
  5. For further information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
