Summary

Lonestar Specialty Vehicles is recalling 13 units of the 2021-2023 SV Hybrid Electric S22 terminal tractors. A software error in the Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) may disable a critical safety feature that monitors the high voltage battery pack for electrical isolation issues. Lonestar is providing a free over-the-air (OTA) software update to fix the issue, and owner notification letters were sent in January 2024.

Risk

If the battery monitoring system is disabled, the vehicle cannot detect malfunctions in the high voltage battery pack. This lack of detection prevents the operator from receiving a warning about battery health, which significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if you own a 2021-2023 Lonestar SV Hybrid Electric S22 terminal tractor by checking your vehicle registration or identification plate.
  2. Verify if your vehicle has already received the over-the-air (OTA) VCU software update by contacting Lonestar customer service.
  3. Contact Lonestar customer service at 1-903-306-0801 to confirm the software update has been successfully applied to your vehicle or to schedule the free repair.
  4. If you have additional questions, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
