Ergotron Recalls Television Wall Mounts Due to Risk of Injury

Summary

Ergotron has recalled about 196,200 interactive television wall mounts because a weld between the mounting plate and ring can fail. This defect can cause the attached monitor or television to suddenly fall from the wall, posing a risk of injury to anyone nearby. The recall includes several models such as the PLAY40, PLAY70, and ITV-HD, which were sold at Walmart, Sam's Club, and Amazon.com between February 2012 and January 2013. Consumers should immediately remove their television from the mount and contact Ergotron for a free repair kit.

Risk

The internal weld connecting the mounting plate to the arm can break under the weight of the display. This allows the television to detach and fall, which has already resulted in three reports of property damage.

What You Should Do

  1. Check the model number and date code on your unit. For PLAY and ITV models, these are printed on the underside of the arms; for OM80FM, OBFM120, and OBFM60 models, the date code is on the front of the wall bracket.
  2. Identify if your mount is affected by matching it to the following model names: PLAY40, PLAY40DS, PLAY70, ITV-HD, ITV-VHD, OM80FM, OBFM120, OBFM60, or OC80FM.
  3. If your mount is affected, immediately remove the television or monitor from the wall mount to prevent it from falling.
  4. Contact Ergotron at (800) 888-8458 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit www.ergotron.com and click 'Recall Information' to receive a free repair kit.
  5. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions regarding this safety recall.
