English Riding Supply is recalling about 3,400 Happy Mouth wire mouth bits used for horseback riding. The steel braided wire inside the plastic mouthpiece can fray, rust, or wear down over time, causing the bit to break during use. There have been four reports of these bits breaking, leading to falls that resulted in broken bones, fractures, bruises, and back pain. These products were sold at equestrian stores and online from July 2003 through April 2012.
If the internal wire breaks while riding, the rider can lose steering and control of the horse, which can cause the rider to fall and sustain serious injuries.
Consumers should immediately stop using these bits and return them to the retailer where purchased or return the bits directly to English Riding Supply for a refund.

If you or a family member were harmed by this recalled product, you may have legal rights. Consider consulting a consumer protection attorney to understand your options for compensation.
