Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC: Various SUV Models Recalled for Engine Stall Risk from Water Intrusion

Summary

Mercedes-Benz is recalling approximately 348,183 SUVs across several model lines, including certain 2012-2020 ML-Class and GLE-Class vehicles. Water can leak into the spare tire wheel well and damage the fuel pump control unit, which may cause the engine to suddenly stall while driving. Dealers will inspect for water damage, install a water drain plug, and replace the fuel pump control unit if necessary for free.

Risk

If the fuel pump control unit is damaged by water, the engine could shut down unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion. An engine stall while driving significantly increases the risk of a crash.
