Altec Industries, Inc.: Aerial Devices Recalled for Engine Stall Risk from Blown Ignition Fuse

Summary

Altec Industries is recalling approximately 594 aerial devices, including models AT200A, AT235, AT235P, AT237, AT37G, AT40G, AT41M, and CB5-132D-S from model years 2017 through 2021. A wire leading to the boom stow sensor may have been installed over a sharp metal edge, which can cause the wire insulation to wear through and touch the metal frame. This contact can blow the ignition circuit fuse, causing the vehicle's engine to stall unexpectedly and increasing the risk of a crash. Altec will install a protective relay to fix the issue free of charge.

Risk

A wire rubbing against a sharp metal edge can cause an electrical short that blows the ignition fuse, leading to an immediate engine stall while the vehicle is in motion. This sudden loss of engine power significantly increases the risk of a collision.
