Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 125,322 vehicles, including certain 2020-2023 Escape, 2022-2023 Maverick, and 2021-2023 Corsair models equipped with 2.5L HEV or PHEV engines. The recall is due to potential engine failures that can cause oil and fuel vapor to leak into the engine compartment and ignite near hot components. Dealers will update software or replace the engine long-block for free to prevent fires, even if the vehicle was previously repaired under a previous recall (22V-484).

Risk

If the engine fails, combustible fluids and vapors can accumulate near ignition sources like the exhaust, resulting in an engine compartment fire that increases the risk of injury.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's make, model, and year to see if it is one of the affected 2020-2023 Ford Escape, 2022-2023 Ford Maverick, or 2021-2023 Lincoln Corsair vehicles with a 2.5L HEV or PHEV engine.
  2. If you hear unexpected engine noises, notice a sudden reduction in vehicle power, or see smoke coming from the engine area, immediately park the vehicle and shut off the engine as quickly as possible.
  3. Contact a Ford or Lincoln dealer to schedule a free repair; depending on your model year, dealers will either update the powertrain control module software or replace the engine long-block.
  4. Be aware that if you had your vehicle repaired under the previous recall (number 22V-484), you must still have this new remedy completed to ensure your vehicle is safe.
  5. Contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 regarding recall number 23S27 if you have questions about your specific vehicle's eligibility.
  6. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
