Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 4,632 of its 2020 Ford Expedition and 2020 Lincoln Navigator vehicles. A defect in the battery junction box can cause a short circuit, which may lead to a fire in the engine compartment while the vehicle is being driven or even when it is parked. Dealers will inspect and replace the battery junction box, remove a ground wire, and install an auxiliary electrical box with a wire jumper on certain models free of charge.

Risk

A short circuit in the battery junction box can cause an engine fire, which significantly increases the risk of injury to occupants or bystanders. Because the fire can occur while the vehicle is parked, owners are advised to park outdoors and away from structures until the repair is completed.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall involves certain 2020 Ford Expedition and 2020 Lincoln Navigator vehicles. Owners should check if their 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is affected by visiting NHTSA.gov/recalls or contacting Ford directly.
  2. Park this vehicle outdoors, away from structures — do NOT park in a garage or near other vehicles due to the risk of an engine fire while the vehicle is parked.
  3. Contact a Ford or Lincoln dealer to schedule an appointment for a free repair. The dealer will inspect and replace the battery junction box as needed, remove a ground wire, and install an auxiliary electrical box with a wire jumper on models with standard-duty radiator fan motors.
  4. You may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall numbers 22S36 or 22S48.
  5. For additional information, call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
