Summary

Kia America, Inc. is recalling approximately 121,411 vehicles, specifically certain 2017-2022 Niro and 2018-2022 Niro Plug-in Hybrid models. Fluid may leak into the printed circuit board inside the hydraulic clutch actuator, which can lead to an electrical short and result in an engine compartment fire. Kia dealers will inspect the actuator, replace it if necessary, and install a new fuse at no cost to owners.

Risk

Fluid leaking into the internal circuit board can cause an electrical short circuit, significantly increasing the risk of a fire in the engine compartment while the vehicle is parked or being driven.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking your vehicle's make and model year: this recall includes 2017-2022 Kia Niro and 2018-2022 Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid vehicles.
  2. Contact a local Kia dealership to schedule a free inspection; dealers will check the hydraulic clutch actuator, replace it if a leak is found, and install a new fuse to prevent electrical issues.
  3. If you have further questions, contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 and reference recall number SC276.
  4. Call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for additional information.
