Summary

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling approximately 302,067 Ram trucks, including 2021-2023 Ram 2500, 3500, and 3500/4500/5500 Cab Chassis models equipped with Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel engines. An electrical short can occur within the heater grid relay regardless of whether the ignition is on or off. This short circuit can cause a fire in the engine compartment, which significantly increases the risk of injury or property damage. Dealers will replace the affected relay free of charge.

Risk

The electrical short in the relay can lead to an engine compartment fire while the vehicle is being driven or even when it is parked and the ignition is turned off. Because these fires can occur while the vehicle is stationary, owners are strongly advised to park their vehicles outdoors and away from homes or other structures until the recall repair is completed.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected: This recall specifically covers 2021-2023 Ram 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 Cab Chassis, and 5500 Cab Chassis trucks equipped with the Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel engine.
  2. Park this vehicle outdoors, away from structures — do NOT park in a garage or near any buildings due to the risk of an engine compartment fire that can occur even while the vehicle is turned off.
  3. Locate your 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls or the manufacturer's website to confirm if your specific vehicle is included in this recall.
  4. Contact Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) customer service at 1-800-853-1403 to schedule a free repair; reference recall number 13A.
  5. Understand the phased rollout: Repair notifications began with 2023 models in April 2023, followed by 2022 models in late April 2023, and 2021 models in May 2023.
  6. For additional questions or concerns, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
