2026 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra EV Recalled for ESC Warning Light Issue

Summary

General Motors is recalling 1,191 of its 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV electric vehicles because a dashboard warning light may fail to turn on. If the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system malfunctions, the corresponding warning light might not illuminate during the next driving cycle. Dealers will update the Electronic Brake Control Module software for free, or owners can receive the fix through an over-the-air software update.

Risk

If the stability control light fails to illuminate, the driver may be unaware of a system failure. This lack of warning increases the risk of a crash, particularly in driving conditions where electronic stability control is necessary to maintain vehicle handling.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall affects 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV electric vehicles that may fail to display an Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction warning light.
  2. Contact a Chevrolet or GMC dealer to schedule a free Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) software update, or accept the over-the-air (OTA) software update remotely if your vehicle is equipped with that feature.
  3. If you have questions, contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 and reference GM recall number N252515340.
  4. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls for more information.
