Airstream, Inc.: Interstate Motorhomes Recalled for Overheating Electrical Wiring

Summary

Airstream is recalling 105 of its 2023-2024 Interstate 24 and Interstate 19 motorhomes because a main electrical cable is poorly protected. The cable running from the battery to the fuse panel is equipped with a 200-amp fuse that is too high for the circuit, which can allow the wiring to overheat if a short circuit occurs. To fix this, dealers will replace the existing 200-amp fuse with a safer 50-amp fuse at no cost to owners.

Risk

If a short circuit happens, the 200-amp fuse may fail to blow, allowing the main battery cable to overheat. This excessive heat significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is a 2023-2024 Airstream Interstate 24 or Interstate 19 motorhome.
  2. Contact an authorized Airstream dealer to schedule a free repair to replace the 200-amp fuse with a 50-amp fuse.
  3. If you have questions, contact Airstream customer service at 1-877-596-6505 or 1-937-596-6111 (extension 7401 or 7411).
  4. Refer to NHTSA campaign number 23V454 when speaking with the manufacturer or dealer.
  5. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
