Airstream, Inc.: 2023 Atlas Motorhomes Recalled for Overheating Electrical Wiring

Summary

Airstream, Inc. is recalling 41 of its 2023 Atlas motorhomes because some electrical wiring was installed with incorrect fuse protection. The 16-gauge branch wires may be connected to a 20-amp fuse instead of a safer 5-amp fuse, which is too high a capacity for the wire size. Dealers will replace the 20-amp fuse with a 5-amp fuse and install a new circuit to correct the issue at no cost to owners.

Risk

In the event of an electrical short circuit, the oversized fuse will not blow quickly enough, allowing the wiring to overheat and significantly increasing the risk of a fire inside the vehicle.

What You Should Do

  1. Confirm if your vehicle is a 2023 Airstream Atlas motorhome.
  2. Contact Airstream customer service at 1-877-596-6505 or 1-937-596-6111 (extension 7401 or 7411) to verify if your specific unit is among the 41 affected vehicles.
  3. Schedule an appointment with an authorized Airstream dealer to have the 20-amp fuse replaced with a 5-amp fuse and a new circuit installed free of charge.
  4. Reference Airstream recall number 23V327 during communications with the dealer or manufacturer.
  5. Contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
