Lion Electric Company: 2021-2025 LionC School Buses Recalled for Electrical Short and Power Loss

Summary

Lion Electric Company is recalling approximately 65 LionC school buses from model years 2021 through 2025. Loose hardware inside the high-voltage distribution unit or the direct current junction box can come into contact with electrical terminals, causing a short circuit. If this occurs, the vehicle's high-voltage system may shut down unexpectedly. Lion technicians will replace the affected hardware free of charge to prevent this issue.

Risk

A short circuit in the high-voltage system can cause a sudden loss of drive power and steering assistance while also reducing braking performance. These conditions significantly increase the risk of a crash while the bus is in operation.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is a LionC school bus manufactured between 2021 and 2025.
  2. Check your records for Lion's internal recall number R2023-007b or NHTSA campaign number 23V452.
  3. Contact Lion customer service at 1-855-546-6706 to schedule a free repair by a Lion technician, who will replace the loose hardware inside the high-voltage distribution unit and junction box.
  4. If you have additional questions, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
