Summary

Lion Electric Company is recalling approximately 170 of its 2021-2025 Lion6 and Lion8 electric vehicles because loose internal parts can cause a high-voltage electrical short circuit. This defect can lead to a sudden shutdown of the vehicle's high-voltage system while driving, resulting in an immediate loss of power and steering assistance. Lion technicians will perform a free repair by replacing the hardware inside the high-voltage distribution unit or direct current junction box.

Risk

A short circuit within the high-voltage system can cause the vehicle to lose drive power and steering assistance and significantly reduce braking capability. These failures can happen suddenly without warning, greatly increasing the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking the model year and type: this recall covers 2021-2025 Lion6 and 2021-2025 Lion8 electric vehicles.
  2. Contact Lion Electric Company customer service at 1-855-546-6706 to confirm your vehicle is part of the recall (Recall number R2023-007a) and to schedule a free repair.
  3. Arrange for a Lion technician to replace the hardware inside your vehicle's high-voltage distribution unit (HVDU) or direct current junction box (DCJB) enclosures at no cost to you.
  4. For additional information or to report concerns, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
