Summary

Hino Motors Sales U.S.A., Inc. is recalling 7 of its 2023 NJ7A and NV7A trucks because the engine control module (ECM) can experience an internal electrical short-circuit. If this happens, the engine could shut down unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion. To address this safety concern, Hino dealers will replace the engine control module in affected vehicles at no cost to the owners.

Risk

A sudden and unexpected engine shutdown while driving can cause a total loss of propulsion, which significantly increases the danger of a crash occurring.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if you own a 2023 Hino NJ7A or NV7A truck by checking your vehicle registration or the VIN plate located on the dashboard.
  2. Contact Hino customer service at 1-248-699-9390 to verify if your specific vehicle is included in this recall and to schedule a free repair.
  3. Bring your vehicle to an authorized Hino dealer to have the engine control module (ECM) replaced free of charge.
  4. For additional questions or to verify your vehicle through the agency, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
