Summary

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling approximately 27,190 S-Class vehicles, including 2021-2023 S580 and Maybach S580 models. A software error in the engine control unit (ECU) can cause the engine to overheat or stall if a specific mechanical failure occurs in the engine's Camtronic system. To fix this, authorized dealers will provide a free software update for the engine control unit.

Risk

If the software causes the engine to stall while driving, it increases the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the software causes the engine to overheat, it creates a risk of a vehicle fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is a 2021-2023 Mercedes-Benz S580 or a 2021-2023 Mercedes-Benz Maybach S580.
