2016-2026 International Trucks Recalled for ECU Safety System Defect

Summary

International Motors, LLC is recalling 678 vehicles across various heavy truck models including the 7600, Lonestar, 8600, LT, MV, RH, HX, and HV from model years 2016 through 2026. Electrical noise and low signal interference may cause the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to process commands incorrectly or stop working entirely. International will work with Bendix to reprogram the ECU for affected vehicles free of charge.

Risk

If the ECU malfunctions, essential safety systems—including anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, and collision mitigation—may fail to work or have reduced performance. This significantly increases the risk of a vehicle crash.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall affects certain International trucks, specifically the 2016 7600, 2016-2023 Lonestar, 2018 8600, 2018-2023 LT, 2021-2026 MV, 2022-2023 RH, 2023-2026 HX, and 2025-2026 HV models.
  2. Check your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA.gov website starting January 12, 2026, to determine if your specific truck is included in this recall.
  3. Contact an authorized International dealer to schedule a free Engine Control Unit (ECU) reprogramming, which will be performed in coordination with Bendix.
