Summary

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling approximately 72,256 model year 2013 Honda Accord vehicles equipped with 4-cylinder engines and continuously-variable transmissions (CVT). In these vehicles, the driveshaft may corrode and break due to exposure to road salt or other contaminants. This defect can lead to a sudden loss of drive power or cause the vehicle to roll away if the parking brake is not applied. Dealers will inspect and replace the driveshaft assemblies as necessary at no cost to owners.

Risk

A broken driveshaft can cause the vehicle to lose power while driving or roll away unexpectedly when parked. Either situation significantly increases the danger of a crash or injury to the driver, passengers, or bystanders.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall involves 2013 Honda Accord vehicles equipped with a 4-cylinder engine and a continuously-variable transmission (CVT) that were sold or registered in specific 'salt-belt' states.

  3. Contact an authorized Honda dealer to schedule a free inspection of your vehicle's driveshaft assembly.
