Summary

Nissan North America is recalling 404,690 vehicles because the resin emblem on the driver's side air bag cover can crack and detach when the air bag inflates. The affected models include 2008-2011 Titan, Frontier, Xterra, Pathfinder, and Armada vehicles, as well as 2008-2009 Quest minivans. Dealers will replace the driver's side air bag cover free of charge to resolve the safety issue.

Risk

If the air bag deploys during a crash, the cracked resin emblem can break away and become a high-speed projectile inside the cabin. This significantly increases the risk of serious injury to the driver and other vehicle occupants.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if you own an affected vehicle: 2008-2011 Nissan Titan, Frontier, Xterra, Pathfinder, or Armada, or a 2008-2009 Nissan Quest.
  2. Contact an authorized Nissan dealer to schedule a free appointment to have the driver’s air bag cover replaced.
  3. If you have additional questions, contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 and mention recall numbers PC944, PC945, or PC946.
  4. For further assistance, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
