Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing: Various Toyota and Lexus Vehicles Recalled for Air Bag Failure

Summary

Toyota is recalling approximately 152,927 vehicles including certain 2023 Corolla, Highlander, Tacoma, and 2023-2024 Lexus RX and NX models. A defect in the steering column's spiral cable assembly may cause an electrical connection to separate, which deactivates the driver's side air bag. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the spiral cable assembly at no cost to the vehicle owner.

Risk

If the electrical connection separates, the driver's air bag will not deploy during a crash. This failure to deploy significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death to the driver during a collision.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is included in this recall by locating your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and entering it at www.nhtsa.gov/recalls or through the Toyota and Lexus owner websites.

  3. If your vehicle is affected, contact an authorized Toyota or Lexus dealer to schedule a free inspection and potential replacement of the steering column spiral cable assembly.
