Summary

BMW is recalling approximately 15,803 vehicles, including various 2022-2023 iX models and 2022-2023 X1 xDrive28i vehicles. The front driver's air bag in these vehicles may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can prevent it from deploying properly during a collision. BMW dealers will replace the driver's air bag assembly free of charge to ensure occupant safety.

Risk

If the driver's air bag does not deploy as intended during a crash, it fails to provide the necessary cushioning and restraint for the driver, significantly increasing the risk of serious injury or death.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is a 2022-2023 BMW iX xDrive40, iX xDrive50, iX M60, or a 2022-2023 BMW X1 xDrive28i.
  2. Contact your local authorized BMW dealer to schedule a free appointment to have the driver's air bag replaced.
