Summary

General Motors is recalling six Autoliv Driver Front Air Bags sold as service replacement parts for certain 2011-2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe vehicles. These specific air bag modules may have a manufacturing defect that causes the inflator to deploy improperly during a crash. Dealers will inspect and replace the driver air bag module free of charge for affected vehicle owners.

Risk

A manufacturing defect in the air bag inflator can cause the driver's air bag to fail to deploy as intended during a collision. If the air bag does not deploy properly in a crash, it significantly increases the risk of injury to the driver.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is a 2011-2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, or Tahoe that has had its driver-side air bag replaced with a service part.
  2. Contact a Chevrolet or General Motors dealer to schedule a free inspection and, if necessary, a replacement of the driver air bag module.
  3. If you have questions, contact GM customer service at 1-888-988-7267 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, referencing recall number N232432520.
  4. Call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
