Ford Motor Company: 2023 Ford F-Series Trucks Recalled Due to Deactivated Driver Air Bag

Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 17,970 of its 2023 F-150 and Super Duty (F-250 through F-600) trucks because the steering wheel clock spring may have an insufficient weld. This defect can cause a loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag, preventing it from deploying during a collision. Ford dealers will inspect and replace the clock spring as necessary at no cost to owners.

Risk

A deactivated air bag will not deploy during a crash, which significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death to the driver during an impact.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's identification to see if it is a 2023 Ford F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, or F-600.
  2. Contact a Ford dealer to schedule an inspection of the steering wheel clock spring; if the weld is found to be insufficient, the dealer will replace the part free of charge.
  3. If you have further questions, contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 23V847.
  4. You may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
