PACCAR Incorporated: Recalling Peterbilt and Kenworth Trucks Due to Loose Driveline Fasteners

Summary

PACCAR Incorporated is recalling 72 of its 2023-2024 Peterbilt (models 536, 537, 548) and Kenworth (models T280, T380, T480) trucks because critical driveline fasteners may not have received the necessary adhesive thread-lock during manufacturing. This defect can cause the four flange-mounted yoke bolts to loosen over time, potentially leading to the driveline separating from the truck while in motion. Dealers will replace the fasteners and apply the required adhesive thread-lock free of charge to ensure the vehicle remains safe to operate.

Risk

If the driveline fasteners loosen and the driveline separates from the vehicle, it can cause an immediate loss of power and create a road hazard, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is one of the affected models: 2023-2024 Peterbilt 536, 537, 548; 2023-2024 Kenworth T280, T480; or 2024 Kenworth T380.
  2. Contact a PACCAR authorized dealer to schedule a free repair where technicians will replace the driveline fasteners and apply the correct adhesive thread-lock.
  3. If you own a Kenworth vehicle, contact PACCAR customer service at 1-425-828-5888 regarding recall number 23KWE.
  4. If you own a Peterbilt vehicle, contact PACCAR customer service at 1-940-591-4220 regarding recall number 23PBE.
