Summary

Doodlebutt is recalling about 1,500 units of Jelly BeadZ Jumbo BeadZ and Magic Growing Fruity Fun water-absorbing polymer toys because they can be mistaken for candy by children. If swallowed, these toys can expand significantly inside a child's body and cause dangerous intestinal obstructions. The products were sold exclusively on Amazon.com between February 2012 and September 2013 for about $9. Consumers should immediately stop using these products and contact Doodlebutt for a full refund.

Risk

These toys can absorb 300 to 500 times their weight in water, expanding up to eight times their original size inside the body. This expansion can cause severe intestinal blockages that may not show up on x-rays and require surgery to remove, posing a life-threatening risk.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if you have the Jumbo BeadZ by checking for clear, blue, red, orange, yellow, green, or purple marble-sized balls sold in clear, resealable bags with a multi-colored label stating 'Jelly BeadZ' and 'Easy to follow directions'.
  2. Identify if you have the Magic Growing Fruity Fun toys by checking for polymer shapes (apples, bananas, butterflies, cherries, grapes, pineapples, roses, and strawberries) in blue, green, orange, pink, red, or yellow, with a label featuring the barcode 'XU00EC1JRN'.
  3. Immediately stop using the recalled polymer products and take them away from small children.
  4. Contact Doodlebutt to arrange for a full refund by calling collect at (239) 313-9779 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or by emailing whitmana@live.com.
  5. For additional questions, contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 or visit www.cpsc.gov.
