Summary

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling approximately 19,968 vehicles, including 2019-2022 CLS450 and AMG E53 models, 2019-2021 AMG CLS53 models, and 2021-2022 E450 models. The 12-Volt battery located in the trunk may not be properly secured and can shift during a crash, leading to an electrical failure. This failure can disable critical safety systems such as the emergency call (eCall) system, hazard warning lights, and automatic door locks. Dealers will inspect and secure the battery mounting free of charge to ensure these systems remain functional during an emergency.

Risk

If the battery shifts during a crash, it can break electrical connections and disable the hazard lights, emergency call system, and automatic door locks, preventing occupants from signaling for help or first responders from easily accessing the vehicle interior.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's registration or door jamb sticker to confirm if you own an affected 2019-2022 CLS450 Coupe, 2019-2022 AMG E53, 2019-2021 AMG CLS53 Coupe, or 2021-2022 E450 vehicle.
  2. Contact a Mercedes-Benz dealership to schedule a free appointment to have the 12-Volt battery in the trunk properly secured.
  3. If you have additional questions, contact Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) customer service at 1-800-367-6372 and reference recall number 2022100009.
