Summary

Honda is recalling approximately 1,693,199 vehicles across various models including the 2022-2025 Honda Civic, CR-V, HR-V, and Acura Integra. The steering gearbox in these vehicles may have been manufactured incorrectly, leading to excessive internal friction that makes the car difficult to steer. Honda dealers will replace a internal spring and add or redistribute grease at no cost to owners to ensure the steering functions properly.

Risk

The steering gearbox defect can cause a sudden increase in steering effort or a 'sticky' steering sensation, which significantly increases the risk of a crash while driving.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is affected by locating your 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and entering it into the NHTSA recall look-up tool at www.nhtsa.gov/recalls or the Honda/Acura recall websites.
  2. If your vehicle is included, contact an authorized Honda or Acura dealer to schedule a free repair. The dealer will replace the worm gear spring and redistribute or add grease as necessary.
  3. Owners who have already paid for these repairs may be eligible for reimbursement and should contact Honda Customer Service at 1-888-234-2138 using recall reference numbers SJS, MJU, QJT, or VJV.
  4. For additional information, you may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
