Summary

Carrier Corporation is recalling approximately 1,945 PowerLINE generator sets from the RG15 and UG15 series 24. These CARB-compliant units, used to provide power for refrigerated transport containers, contain a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) that can overheat during operation. An overheated DOC can cause the unit's shell and surrounding components to melt, which significantly increases the risk of a fire. Dealers will install a safety circuit to prevent this issue free of charge.

Risk

The Diesel Oxidation Catalyst can reach excessive temperatures that cause internal and external components to melt. This overheating can lead to a fire that damages the vehicle and surrounding property.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your generator set to determine if it is one of the affected 24 CARB-compliant models: 69RG15-120W-24, 69UG15-050S-24, 69UG15-068S-24, or 69UG15-080S-24.
  2. Stop operating vehicles equipped with these specific generator sets immediately until a root-cause investigation is complete and the safety circuit is installed.
  3. Contact Carrier Corporation customer service at 1-800-668-6283 to arrange for a free installation of a safety circuit by an authorized dealer.
  4. For additional information, you may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
